There are many open water swimming groups dotted all over Australia where people get together for an early morning swim, a bit of exercise and of course, the post-swim coffee. It seemed a natural thing to organise a swimming group here on Bruny. After all, we live on an island so it’s pretty easy to pick a beach with ideal conditions for a morning dip based on which way the wind is blowing. So with that thought, the Bruny Wild swimming group was formed and we swim 3 days a week – Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 7:30.
The location varies between the main beach at Alonnah, opposite the store at Adventure Bay, Hanssons Beach, Quite Corner, Daniels Bay and Cemetery Rd beach at Lunawanna. Just depends on where it’s blowing offshore on the day. The best way to learn the next day’s swim location is to check out our Facebook group page – click here.
If you are interested in coming for a swim, don’t be shy. It’s for all levels of swimming ability and there no rules as such. We have a 50/50 mix of men and women, some wear flippers, some don’t. Some wear wetsuits, some use snorkels.
The main idea is to just get wet, exercise and enjoy some camaraderie. If you would like to receive swim notifications, just send me a message on Facebook and I’ll include you in the Messenger group.
